#14 What Do I Think About Creative Thinking & Idea Generation

Well, it's seem this is the last blog post for my project 1 for this Creative Thinking & Idea Generation. This time round, I'll round up what I've learnt and my opinion about this "Typical" subject. At first, i was thinking that did I went into the wrong class? Because when i saw the teaching plan and the assessments are fully designed for Graphic Design students. However, I found out that this subject isn't that bad because my lecturer and tutor explained that the artwork of our project is not that important compare to the content and idea that we apply on it.

Creative? What is creative? In my opinion, there is no an exact definition of it and no people able to judge on others people idea. Maybe someone will buy your idea or some will ban your idea. It is quite neutral because its depends how people interpret the ideas. Undoubtedly, there's a lots of things that can influence a person to think creatively but its depend on the person willing to be creative or not.

The seeds of creativity live in everyone. Some individuals are fortunate that their sprouting imagination was nurtured and grown into strong creative thinking abilities. Creative people invent, imagine, problem-solve, create, and communicate in fresh, new ways. Every business requires creative thinkers in the form of scientists, engineers, medical researchers, technology innovators, business entrepreneurs, artists, performers, writers and illustrators, designers, inventors, educators and parents. Those with the ability to "think outside of the box" will lead the future and make special things happen. Now this is why creativity is important to our society and the globe.

For the sufficient reason above, it is the best influence for "YOU" to think creatively and apply in your life!

#13 3D-Cube

It is almost comes to an end for my Y1S2 degree studies in UTAR PJ Campus. Well, The last assignment to complete for this semester is the 3D-Cube. Its quite a tough job for me to cope with as you knew that i'm really 'S*CK' in artwork. However, I'm looking forward to complete this critical challenge to earn a better marks and grade for this "Creative Thinking & Idea Generation" subject.
Perhaps an 'A'? A 'B' or a slightly lower grade of 'C' will be good enough for me. While, of course the higher grade the better! Hahaha. XD

The Pyramid of Giza, Egypt
For me, i have no idea what and where to seek inspiration for my 3D-Cube. While at last i chose to make my cube shape into a 3D Pyramid cube.
Why?
Because the Egyptian Pyramid is one of the place that i wanted to pay a visit badly and it is on my top of my vacation list. For me, the ancient Egyptian was truly amazing to built this humongous building without advance technology by using their own hand. However, there's rumors that the Pyramid is built by ALIEN!
Who knows by the way!

Stay tune for my 'to-be-done' 3D cube.

#12 Creative Advertising

Advertising is a form of communication used to encourage or persuade an audience such as viewers, readers or listeners; sometimes a specific group of people to continue or take some new action.
Most commonly, the desired result is to drive consumer behavior with respect to a commercial offering, although political and ideological advertising is also common. The purpose of advertising may also be to reassure employees or shareholders that a company is viable or successful.

What makes a advertisement successful?

CREATIVITY!

Creativity is needed badly in advertising field because an creative idea contain the power to attract peoples and enable the audience to store an impression in their mind. These creative advertising has influenced and opens up my mind about "You don't have to be awesome to allow people to remember you, but creativity has the power to allow you to impress people."

#11 Flash Mob

A flash mob is a group of people who assemble suddenly in a place, perform an unusual and seemingly pointless act for a brief time, then disperse, often for the purposes of entertainment, satire, and artistic expression.

The term, coined in 2003, is generally not applied to events and performances organized for the purposes of politics (such as protests), commercial advertisementpublicity stunts that involve public relation firms, or paid professionals. In these cases of a planned purpose for the social activity in question, the term smart mobs is often applied instead.

Example of oldies of flashmob
Have you ever heard of a movie named 'Step Up Revolution'?  It is an American 3D dance film produced by Step Up 3D director Jon M. Chu and directed by Scott Speer. The plot of the movie is  a daughter of a wealthy businessman, Emily, arrives in Miami with aspirations of becoming a professional contemporary dancer. However, she soon falls in love with Sean, a young man who leads a dance crew in elaborate, cutting-edge flash mobs. The crew, called the MOB, strives to win a contest on Youtube for most hits for a major sponsorship opportunity, but Emily's father threatens to destroy the MOB's historic neighborhood and the entire community and build a large hotel, in the process displacing thousands of people. Emily bands together with Sean and the MOB to turn their performance art into protest art or risk losing their homes and jobs due to Emily's father's project. They succeed in making Bill Anderson not break their area thus saving their crew and the neighourhood.

In this movie, it shown how the flash mob played a role of 'protest' and directly telling the developers that their homeland is not for sale.
What does this relates to creative? For me, it is an creative way to show your protest compare to the actual way of protest like grouping a group of people shouting and holding some written board on the street. Indirectly taught us that, we can solve our problem by using others creative way and not necessarily have to stick with the old solution that are not that effective.

#10 Are you sure that's a Birthday Cake?

What is in your mind when you thinks of birthday cake?
A round shape cake with normal design?
or
A square shape cake with animation on it?

Not just that!
Nowadays, bakery shops are more and more creative. They have lots of design of 3D animation and they allowed customers to customize what they want their cake to to looks like. I am impressed with the 3D designed birthday cake which broken the rules of birthday cake that always be in the same design which is in square and circle shape for decades ago. Somehow, the 3D designed birthday cake does looks very attractive and i'm sure that you would not like to cut and eat the good looking cake on your birthday.

Here's some examples of 3D designed birthday cake:
A DSLR design cake.

It's really looks like a toy robot more than a cake for me.

A leopard as a pet for your birthday? Don't you think about it.

#9 3D Streets Painting/Art

Street painting, also commonly known as pavement artstreet art, and sidewalk art, is the performance art of rendering original and non-original artistic designs on pavement such as streets, sidewalks, and town squares with impermanent and semi-permanent materials such as chalk

The origins of modern street painting began in Britain. Pavement artists were found all over the UK and by 1890 it was estimated that over 500 artists were making a full time living from pavement art in London alone. The British term for Pavement artist is "screever". The term is derived from the writing, often Copperplate, that typically accompanied the works of pavement artists since the 1700s.
I found that the street art is kind of creative whereas no one will have the skills and creativeness to paint a 3D or non-3D painting in the public. Hopefully there will be 3D street art be found in Malaysia. Although i'm not good in arts, but arts had influenced me to be creative and in the world of arts, anything is possible.
Here's some of the interesting street painting that globed around the world:

#8 POP-UP?

Seriously, I'm not a book lover. I don't like to read books except some sports and automobile magazine. Well, i hardly remember when is the last time of me holding a book and read it seriously..

Hrmmm..
At the age of 7?
                        Age of 9?
Or perhaps at the age of 12.. ><

During my childhood, i prefer outdoor activity more than staying in the house holding a book and read. I knew reading is a good habit to gain knowledge but i still found it was way too boring for an outgoing person like me. Haha.

Somehow, I'm having this subject called Creative Thinking & Idea Generation. One of the assignment is create a children storybook and it is covered 50% of coursework for this particular assignment. Efforts are needed badly to get high marks and score as high as I could for this 100% coursework subject..

So far so good for our storybook and we are trying to make the book into an so called 'pop-up' storybook. Pop-up book is often applied to any three-dimensional or movable book. It can make the book looks more lively in 3D and it attracts attention of the readers- children. In my opinion, this 'pop-up' idea is an awesome way to attract the reader of the book and people to buy it cause its really special compare to the others black and white and non-graphics storybooks. Hopefully me and my team are capable of making a successful pop-up storybook.

#7 Thai Health Promotion Foundation- Smoking Kid

Last week, my Corporate & Consumer Advertising tutor asked us to search out some corporate and psa video to present during the next tutorial class. While thanks to my group member Tony, he actually founded a meaningful and sort of creative PSA video through the web.
The ad from Ogilvy & Mather Bangkok, created for the Thai Health Promotion Foundation, created buzz at the Cannes Lions International Festival of Creativity this week and has since gone viral.  The PSA captures a street campaign in which cute kids walk up to adult smokers, pull out cigarettes and ask for a light. After every adult refuses  and they lectures the child on the dangers of smoking. So on, the kids hands them folded-up notes that read, "You worry about me. But why not about yourself?"  And a number for the Thai Health Promotion Foundation's hotline is inside to let the person who are interested to quit smoking   seek for help or information.

According to the agency, phone calls from smokers went up 40 per cent in the wake of the campaign. It proved that this is an effective and successful PSA video in Thailand. This idea of using children as a weapon to deliver message to the adults is really creative and it influenced me that everything is possible and we don't really need to just thinking in a box. Somehow, i really thinks that CREATIVE, is what we really needed so badly in the society.

This is the video that i mentioned:

#6 DIY?

Do it yourself (DIY) is a term used to describe building, modifying, or repairing of something without the aid of experts or professionals. In recent years, the term DIY has taken on a broader meaning that covers a wide range of skill sets. In this context, DIY is related to the Arts and Crafts movement, in that it offers an alternative to modern consumer culture's emphasis on relying on others to satisfy needs.

Recently, i saw lot's of my friends shared some DIY sports shoes on Facebook and it seem a an art work that shows a lot of creative and stylish ideas, most of them very easy to do. Moreover, we don't have to pay a lot of money for new shoes when you can spend almost nothing by recycling old shoes or buying cheap ones to customize. So why not?

It is a really creative way to save up some money for the a new shoe, this idea turns my mind around to make a DIY shoes for myself instead of spending RM300 over for a new one. Hopefully, i'll be able to create out a low cost DIY shoes for myself in few months time. :)

This is one of my favorite DIY shoes.
Customize any colours for your own shoes.
Design any style on your shoes that u wish.

#5 " INSPIRED" ?

Do you ever wonder how creative people find their inspiration? If you do, then "Inspired" is a book for you. This a book about the creative process, it is written by Kiki Hartmann and Dorte Nielsen and is launched on 28th of October at Amsterdam, Netherlands. They have interviewed creative thinkers from a wide variety of disciplines and they asked them how and where they got their best ideas, what they surround themselves with and if they follow any kind of formula in the creative process.  Besides, the book has many more inspiring stories and stunning photos. After a briefly look at the photos that showed on the website, it inspire me a lot to think creatively. For example, Shoes, we can design our own shoes by painting different colours and even draw pictures that we are amazed on it.  I would like to try on customize a shoe for myself if i really got the time. :P

As a reader you get an insight into what actually inspires the world’s top creative people.

Speaking of inspiration, this book is a the one.

#3 LOMOGRAPHY

If you haven’t heard of lomography, it’s time to educate yourself. Whether you are a seasoned photographer or a self-confessed newbie, everyone can be a lomographer. Lomography is a new take on an old style of analogue photography. It’s solid and vivid in colors and with a ring black border in general. Here’s a hand-picked high quality lomography from various sources.
This is what makes lomography so fun–and so frustrating. Lomo cameras are highly unpredictable–like it has a life of its own. That’s why most of the beautiful lomo photos are ‘happy accidents’.
In definition lomo means art of mistake. It all started out with a mistake, someone use an expired film couple with a fungus lens to shoot. It's impossible to trace back who started this trend, but whoever did it he/she is a genius!
Mistakes are not something bad or negative. We can learn or gain experience and creative stuff like the lomography founder did.
We must not say every mistake was a foolish one.

Below are some examples of the LOMOGRAPHIC:

#2 FOOTBALL

Football is my favorite sport. It's refers to a number of sports that involve, to varying degrees, kicking a ball with the foot to score a goal. The most popular of these sports worldwide is association football, more commonly known as just "football" or "soccer".

However, most of the female in Malaysia define football as a "stupid" game because its like 22 person chasing a ball in the field for 90 minutes. In my opinion, football is a kind of sport that need of strength, agility, tactics, teamwork and etc. Its a combination of all the criteria above in order to win the game for the team.

I represented my school's football team for 3 years during my secondary education life in Ipoh. I used to play as a full back or a defensive midfielder for my team. It's no an easy position to play with because its need a lots of stamina to cope with. During the 3 years time, I played against many different teams and different kind of style of players. Every players have their own style of playing way in the game.

Because of this, i have to think of another way to play up against them.
By watching different footballer with different kind of their playing style inspired me think creatively on how i'm gonna play.. The player that inspired me to think and play creatively is Cristiano Ronaldo.  He is a creative person that surprise the world with his special movement against his opponent game by game.

C.Ronaldo signature skills and tricks.

On my playing position, my objective is solve out the threat that oppose by the opponent effectively and efficiently. In order to do that without any mistake, I usually searching out the way or tactics to stop these threats by watching short football video clips on YouTube and watch football match on television to seek for inspiration for my new creative moves. By doing this, it allows me to think of new way and create new football skills to go up against my opponents. In football, you can't always depend on the same skills or tactics to win you every single game. New tactics and skills are needed in order to proceed smoothly in the game of football.

FOOTBALL, CAN BE LEAD US TO BE CREATIVE TOO~

#1 COLOURS

COLOUR is the visual perceptual property corresponding in humans to the categories called red, green, blue, and others.  COLOURS  do have an impact. For instance, blue is one of my favorite colour, it is shown to help with creative thinking. It’s believed this happens, because we associate the colour blue with relaxation, cloud-free skies, cool blue water and etc.

Different COLOURplay different effects on how people think, and how they act and it can play effects on the body as well as the mind. Besides that, COLOURS could affect a person emotion, by choosing the right color for an occasion is very important in how people perceive you and how you feel and this could lead to how a person thinks creatively.

For example, when I'm stressed out and out of idea for my assignments. Literally, i walk out from my room in order to get some fresh air and look up to the blue sky to relax myself and seek for ideas. Its a really good idea to relax yourself and generates new ideas when you're in a different environment with different COLOURS
